What data centre cooling actually requires
Precision, not just cold air. Hot aisle, cold aisle — the geometry matters. Cooling needs to reach the intake of every rack at the right temperature and volume. Flooding the room with cold air is wasteful; targeted delivery to the heat sources is the engineering.
Redundancy that's real. "We've got a backup unit" isn't a redundancy strategy. N+1 and 2N configurations need to be designed in from the start — tested, maintained, and proven to take over seamlessly when a primary component fails. Not theoretically. Actually.
Humidity control. Too dry and you get electrostatic discharge damaging components. Too humid and you get condensation. The band is narrow and the consequences of getting it wrong are expensive.
Efficiency that reduces PUE. Cooling typically represents 30-40% of a data centre's energy consumption. Free cooling when ambient conditions allow, intelligent equipment staging, and precise delivery rather than brute force — each point off your PUE is money saved every hour of every day.
How we design for uptime
Our bespoke design approach starts with your actual heat loads — current density and planned growth. Not a catalogue solution sized for a generic server room.
Scalable architecture. The system we design today accommodates the density you're planning for tomorrow. Expansion shouldn't mean ripping out cooling infrastructure and starting again.
24/7 remote monitoring that watches cooling performance continuously. Not just temperature — airflow, refrigerant pressures, compressor performance. If something is drifting before it fails, we see it and act before your operations are affected.
Energy optimisation. Free cooling strategies that use ambient conditions when available. Variable speed drives matching cooling output to actual demand. Intelligent staging that runs the minimum equipment needed rather than everything at once. Every decision designed to reduce PUE while maintaining the conditions your equipment requires.
