Stratification / Ventilation of Large Spaces

You are paying to heat your building, and the warmest air in it is sitting ten metres above anyone who can feel it. Warm air rises, cold air sinks, and in a tall industrial space that physics quietly converts your heating budget into a warm ceiling. Destratification is how you get that heat back — and done properly, it is designed into the air distribution, not bolted on afterwards.

Warm air rises. Your money goes with it.

The temperature gradient in a typical warehouse runs 0.5 to 1.0 degrees per metre of height. In a building with 10 metres of headroom, the air at the ceiling can be 10 degrees warmer than at floor level. Every one of those degrees was paid for at the meter — and none of them is doing anything for the people, the product or the process below.

Stratification is not a comfort niggle. It is a standing loss, running every hour the heating runs.

Why fans aren't the answer

Destratification fans push warm air down. It rises again. The cycle repeats, and now you are running motors and paying for electricity to manage a symptom while the underlying physics carries on regardless — with moving parts at high level that will eventually need someone up there maintaining them.

Fans fight stratification. Good air distribution design prevents it from forming in the first place.

Destratification by design, not retrofit

Our approach uses Balanced JET Technology — computer-calculated nozzle air distribution engineered for your building's specific geometry. High-velocity jets induce circulation through the whole air volume, continuously mixing the space so a stratified layer never gets the chance to establish. The result is temperature uniformity within ±1.0°C from floor to ceiling, across the entire facility.

There is nothing to adjust, nothing that moves and nothing at high level to maintain. The building stops layering because the air never stops mixing.

The effect scales. At DC9 at Prologis RFI DIRFT, high-velocity JET nozzles recirculate the warm air that rises to a roof over 20 metres up and push it back to floor level — which is a large part of why a 359kW heat pump is enough to hold almost 600,000 m³ at temperature.

The heat you already generated, put back to work

Every building produces internal heat gains — and in a stratified space, that free heat migrates straight to the roof. Circulating it back into the occupied zone means the system leans on heat that already exists before it generates any of its own. It is the same principle that makes our frost protection systems so efficient: circulate the heat the building creates, and the plant rarely needs to fire at all.

The cheapest kilowatt of heat is the one you already paid for once.

Where the ceiling is highest, the case is strongest

The taller the space, the more the gradient costs you — which is why destratification matters most in high-bay warehouses and distribution centres and in large venues and aircraft hangars, where traditional distribution simply cannot reach. If your building measures its headroom in double digits, the air at the top is worth going after.

Our approach

01

Site survey — building height, heat loads and the internal heat gains already present in the space

02

Distribution design — computer-calculated nozzle air distribution engineered for your specific geometry

03

Circulation of internal heat gains — the heat your building already produces, put back into the occupied zone

04

Installation with nothing at high level that ever needs maintaining — no fans, no motors, no cherry picker

05

Verification — uniformity measured against the design, floor to ceiling

Why Jet Environmental

  • Temperature uniformity within ±1.0°C from floor to ceiling, across the entire space
  • The heat you already generated, put back to work instead of collecting at the roof
  • No moving parts in the distribution system — nothing at high level to wear out or maintain
  • Designed once, balanced forever — no seasonal rebalancing, no commissioning adjustments
  • Effective in the tallest spaces, from high-bay warehouses to hangars and large venues
