The challenge: precise temperature control for MHRA-compliant storage

Kent Pharmaceuticals, a family business established in the early 1980s, has grown to become Britain's largest independent generic pharmaceuticals manufacturer and leading wholesaler. JET was approached to provide a temperature control solution at the company's new warehousing facility in Measham — two units with a combined floor space of 90,000 sq ft — where internal conditions had to satisfy MHRA guidelines for the storage of pharmaceutical products.

  • Internal operating temperature had to be held between 18°C and 25°C throughout, in line with MHRA guidance
  • Two separate warehouse units, totalling 90,000 sq ft, both required conditioning
  • Extensive roof lights created a risk of excessive solar heat build-up within the space
  • A robust monitoring regime was needed to evidence ongoing compliance to auditors and customers

Our solution: a single JET Air Induction System for each warehouse

Given the scale of the buildings, JET specified a single Air Induction System for each unit, combining gas-fired heating with DX cooling — both readily available on site — to hold the required temperature range year-round.

  • Air handling units mounted externally at ground level in both units, saving valuable internal floor space
  • Plant sized against external summer design conditions of 32°C DB / 21°C WB, to hold performance even in extreme weather
  • Solar protection recommended for the roof lights, cutting heat gain and allowing smaller AHUs and condensing units to be specified
  • 14 temperature sensors installed across both sites (8 in the larger unit, 6 in the smaller) — well beyond the usual four — feeding a continuous monitoring and recording system

What we delivered

MHRA-compliant conditions

Maintains a steady 18°C–25°C across both warehouses, satisfying MHRA guidelines for pharmaceutical storage.

90,000 sq ft, one system per unit

A single JET Air Induction System conditions each warehouse, with externally mounted AHUs freeing up internal floor space.

14-point temperature monitoring

Far exceeding the usual four-sensor setup, a dedicated network provides continuous monitoring and recording across both sites.

Delivered on schedule

Both installations were completed on time and, in Kent's own words, "trouble free."

What the client said

"On taking on both warehouses, we had the opportunity to address our temperature control requirements and JET responded quickly. They were meticulous in their planning and both installations were trouble free. We routinely show off the air induction systems to our customers, which not only is great PR for Kent, but also shows that we are committed to MHRA guidelines and ultimately, patient safety."
